The aim of the CYPSP is to ensure that there is a co-ordinated interagency strategy for services to children and young people in order to improve service delivery.

Two strategic partnerships (0-13, 13-19) and a series of Joint Development Groups (JDGs) report to the CYPSP. These JDGs look at specific areas within the strategic framework for children, young people and their families, and it is the role of the CYPSP to co-ordinate the work of these groups and ensures there is no duplication. In addition to this, the CYPSP also commissions the JDGs to undertake specific pieces of work as appropriate, based on local priorities and national policy initiatives.
